Course Outline

My classes are held indoors and outdoors the year around. Group or private lessons are available. Group lessons meet once a week, one hour, for 6 weeks. The fee is kept low, due to inflation. The owner has a choice of collar or harness, which is preferred for puppies or smaller breeds. Training leashes: 6' leather or nylon are preferred. Retractable or chain leashes are NOT recommended. We stress positive training and frown on harsh methods.
The owner furnishes small chewable dog treats or a squeaky toy to gain the dog's attention. Basic training consists of walking nicely on a leash, come when called, sit, down and "stay or wait". Socialization with other animals, people, objects and noises are part of the program. I also offer Testing for AKC Canine Good Citizen Titles.

Items to Bring to Class

Collar or choke with leash. Soft treats and water. Expansion leashes are NOT recommended for training.

About Your Trainer

I grew up in Germany. I developed a great love for animals, mainly dogs. My father was a soft spoken man and treated our dogs and trained them by his soft trainer methods. He had hunting dogs, a German Shepherd and Daschund. I inherited his respect for animals. I became known as a soft trainer following in his footsteps.
Coming to the United States I became a Parks and Recreation employee. Among interesting teaching fields, I developed a training program for dogs and owners. TV channel 4 filmed a 6 week training program with me and my German Shepherds "Maja". I became a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club and later joined the Greater Kansas City Dog Training Club. I retired as a Recreation Director after 22 years, and decided to continue with my training program.
I attended many seminars, studied individual dog breeds to learn their negative and positive behavior. I took different classes with my own dogs. I showed in dog shows, Confirmation and mainly obedience and Agility. I have had classes in Search and Rescue and Tracking. My dogs earned titles and awards.
I have a special interest in training dogs rescued from shelters, puppy mills, the very shy dog and even those showing aggression.
In my dog training class I concentrate on each individual dog owner's needs, the behaviors of their dogs and individualized needs to make man's "Best Friend" a good citizen, that the family and the neighbors can live with.
I am also an AKC, Registered Evaluator. I am certified to test dogs for Canine Good Citizen Titles (CGC).
